AUTUMN ON THE FARM

Autumn on Johanna river farm and cottages is a lovely time of year.  The gardens around the cottages reflect the season with Maple trees changing colour and the fruit trees closing down in readiness for Winter.

There’s lots of  work and replanting in the guests share garden and the orchard – removing summer vegetables and herbs getting ready for winter planting.  The scarecrow is put in place in the hope of saving some fruit from the cockatoos who feast on the young walnuts.

What’s the weather like in Autumn at the farm?

The weather in the Otways is changeable and can be quite wonderfully dramatic.  Crisp, still, sunny days or misty mornings and perhaps storms coming in over the ocean.  The night skys, we think, are best when staying at the farm in Autumn.  You should try a night time walk with clear night skies full of stars.

Bring a warm jacket and enjoy exploring the farm and this beautiful Great Ocean Road and Otways National Park region.  Autumn provides added interest in the natural beauty of the rainforest and waterfall walks within the Otway national park.  A variety of  colourful fungi sprout and make a walk in the cool temperate Otway rainforests an added point of interest.
